The Legacy of Rescue: A Conversation Between Descendants Chihiro Sugihara & Sonia Milrod

  • Cincinnati Museum Center 1301 Western Avenue Cincinnati, OH, 45203 United States (map)

More than 20,000 European Jews survived the Holocaust by escaping to Shanghai. Chiune Sugihara, a Japanese diplomat who served as vice-consul for the Japanese Empire in Kaunas, Lithuania, helped thousands flee. For his brave efforts, Sugihara has earned the titles of “Japanese Schindler” and Righteous Among the Nations. Sonia Milrod’s father, Jerry, was one of the many people who Sugihara’s actions helped save.

Join us at Union Terminal on Monday, May 6, 7 p.m. for a once-in-a-lifetime moment as Sonia and Chihiro Sugihara, Chiune’s grandson, meet for the very first time. This moving, monumental conversation will reveal in detail how far and wide the ripple effects of being an upstander can reach.
